Overview

Gorget- from the French word meaning throat, was originally a band of linen wrapped around a woman's neck. Pronounced “/ˈɡɔrdʒɨt/” later became a piece of armor worn in battle made of leather or metal. Some have said that the gorget is the symbol on the South Carolina state flag. The flag was designed in 1775 by William Moultrie to signal ships coming into port. Later in the 20th century Alexander Samuel Salley Jr. redesigned the flag changing the palmetto tree and rotated the gorget on its side. Todays interpretation it looks like a crescent moon. Either way we hope you will enjoy our spirits as much as we do!
